A wizard in Washington Square Park once told me “you have enough magic within you, to rule this world. You must tap into it in order to own it” and in addition to becoming my morning mantra, this moment created the pathway to how I approach my artistry.
Hi! I’m Marisa Joy Caputo and I am a New York City based actor and dancer. I received my BFA from NYU Tisch Drama completing training at the Meisner Studio as well as Atlantic Theater Company. In addition to mastering the technique of staying up till 2 a.m looking around my college dorm room for how I could create an activity for class with a deck of playing cards, a rock and a photo of my deceased grandmother, (wish I had the help of the wizard then) my time in Meisner instilled in me the importance of trusting my impulses and working moment to moment. This was only strengthened during my time at Atlantic which provided me with the space to harness these instincts into script analysis and scene work through the method of practical aesthetics. As well as my summer at NYU Florence studying Commedia Dell’Arte and Clown which allowed me to find the play in every project I am apart of. I’ve found power in simplicity, and comfort in the chaos of it all.
While I have no plans at the moment to rule the world, I’d like to think of myself as the master of my personal universe. Exploring and nurturing new parts of Marisa every day. When i’m not performing you can find me reading a new book, creating pinterest boards, or staying up to date with my favorite ballroom dancers. All this to say, I am forever in debt to my Washington Square Wizard.
